Sounds like a plan. Good luck!
BTW for the rest of us onlookers this is called user-testing, and sometimes it's still going after you've gone live.

Hi Jake,
I think I understand your request (you don't need my permission
) )
Let me make sure I'm understanding what you're referring to...
Lets say an initial thread was called "Nik is awesome", then you reply and make the "Subject" to your reply as "Nik is ridiculous" . So both titles exist within the thread. Is that right?
& the problem is that changing the title interferes with search? Just trying to clarify.
Nik

Hi Nik,
Yes exactly, that's what I'd like to find out, so I have changed the subject of this post to 'Lost Posts' and we will see what happens when I try to find either subject.

Hi Nik,
Sorry to all the posters reading this - trying to sort out a technical 'bug'.
Bit complicated Nik but yep, just as I imagined:
'Lost Posts' does not exist as a subject, even though it clearly exists (see the previous posts above this).
'Topics' still exists, but has been changed by the poster (me) so it appears if someone changes the subject line, it can't be found by the search engine.
I have changed the subject back to 'Topics', but it would be better in my opinion if IT could block the subject line from being altered by a poster, once the thread is started, do you agree?
Thanks,
Regards, Jake

I think your suggetion of blocking edits to it once it's started would probably be simplest. Good work! K

Hi Alessandra,
Well with time off for 'good behaviour' and a further reduction for 'pleading guilty' you should be out well before Christmas (Lol!)
